Name of the project: Study of recovery of dusts arising from copper production
Call: Scientific Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, science, research and sport of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Academy of Sciences
Project number: VEGA 1/0408/23
Principal investigator: Prof. Ing. Jarmila Trpčevská, PhD.
Duration: 2023 - 2025
Anotation: Pyrometallurgical production of secondary copper uses secondary raw materials containing not only copper but also other heavy metals such as zinc, tin and lead. In the smelting process dusts are formed, which are considered hazardous waste. The high contents of these metals in dust prevent their direct reuse in copper production. The priority of waste management in the Slovak Republic and EU initiatives in the field of critical raw materials is the effort to increase the rate of metal recycling and to recycle hazardous waste as a priority. The project will be focused on the study of recovery of dusts arising from secondary copper production. As a result of the study, it is assumed that a dust processing scheme will be designed to obtain commercially available products based on zinc, tin and lead.
